LOS ANGELES – Robert Downey Jr. is officially back in the superhero business.
Production started Wednesday on "Iron Man 2," the sequel to his 2008 blockbuster about the Marvel Comics character.
Downey reprises his role as a billionaire genius who fights bad guys in a high-tech metal suit that's loaded with gadgets. "Iron Man 2" reunites Downey with co-star Gwyneth Paltrow and also features Don Cheadle, who replaces Terrence Howard as the superhero's military ally.
Mickey Rourke is signed on to play a villain, and the cast also includes Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L. Jackson, who had a cameo at the end of the first "Iron Man."
Jon Favreau is back directing again for the sequel that hits theaters May 7, 2010.

Apparently, Jackson has signed a nine-picture deal to play Fury. So we'll be seeing a lot of him. And unless I'm mistaken, Rourke is going to be Blacklash/Whiplash.

Just found out that Justin Hammer is going to be played by Sam Rockwell. A strange choice considering Rockwell's age, but should be interesting.

See....but I trust Sam Rockwell enough to think he's going kick out the jams. Granted, it'll be weird watching a Hammer who's noticably younger (and doesn't look like the man John Romita Jr. originally patterned hum after, Peter Cushing), but still... And with confirmation of Justin Hammer entering the movieverse, I have to ask...is Bethany Cabe far behind?

Oh, I've got no issue whatsoever with Rockwell playing Hammer. The man's a great actor and very underrated, so I'm looking forward to it. I was just saying it's a little weird because I didn't expect them to make Hammer the same age as Tony, but I guess they didn't want to go for another older business rival after Stane.

First off--YAH!!!! Agent Coulson is back!!!! Secondly...I'm guardedly hopeful. As the author points out, Bethany Cabe is a rather large part of the Hammer storyline that it looks like Favreau is going to be mining. But, as the author also points out, with The Black Widow showing up, having Kate Mara as Bethany might be too much romance for what is, at heart, an action movie. And I'm...less than thrilled with Ms. Mara as Bethany if she is Bethany. I always thought Rachel McAdams (who was rumored to play the character at one time) was the best fit. But given Favreau's track record, I shall give her the benefit of the doubt.
