One thing I noticed watching the orgasmic BluRay of NORTH BY NORTHWEST, is the scene during the first hour (where Hitch is otherwise, kind of running on auto-pilot) where Martin Landau and James Mason's henchmen are forcing booze into Cary Grant. It's filmed in a long, tight shot that makes it visceral and brutal. I think it would look silly shot from further back.
