I've listened to all of your Gilt Edged Bond episodes (twice!). You've already done the Bond knock-offs. I cannot find the Craig films on any off your numerous sites. Did I miss it? What happened?

We were supposed to do the final GEBs with our friend (and editor of HOW THE WEST WAS WEIRD) Russ Anderson, who actually liked Quantum of Boredom--SOLACE! I MEAN SOLACE!, and would have given a different view from ours on that film. However, given how delayed it is, I'm thinking we should do it within the next recording session or so.

I'm certainly anxious to hear this as well. I think there are some problems with QOS and it's not as good as CASINO ROYALE, but I wouldn't call it boring. It does suffers from what I'll call GODFATHER III syndrome, meaning it's best appreciated when watched right after the previous film, unfortunately doing so will also highlight it's deficiencies.

Wanna know how boring I found QUANTUM OF SOLACE, Eddie? I feel asleep during the airplane chase the first time I saw the movie. Actually went back to the theater and paid full price to see the movie a second time. See, the first time I saw it I had gotten off work and figured maybe I was just tired.
I feel asleep the second time right at the same exact spot.

Oh well, obviously Derrick -- you saw the picture in a theater that was showing it in the startling new soporific technology known as 3-Z (or zzzzzzzz). Did they give you your 3-Z classes when you came in -- otherwise known as night-shades?
Funny you mention that though, as I liked QOS alot when I saw it in the theater, and less so on subsequent viewings, though I still like it. But when I saw it first at the Ziegfeld, they cautioned all us patrons that the heat in the theater was off. It was in winter and very cold and we sat huddled in our coats at our seats. I thought this was a ruse to keep the mid-week matinee expenses down, but may well have been done as an effort to ensure wakefulness.

Building off of the conciets of CASINO ROYALE, the franchise further tried to cut away Bond conventions. So, in QUANTUM, they intentionally picked a bland villan. No scars, no weird physical tic, no obsessive psychological flaws. Well, that's not James Bond and that's fucking boring.

Two words: Hugo Drax. And two more words: Karl Stromberg.
Both those villains I find more boring than Greene, who at least puts up a decent fight at the end. (During which he lets out these great feminine shrieks.)

Dominic Greene came off more as an accountant with an attitude and not a towering mastermind of evil which is what I look for in a James Bond movie. However, I do realize that this is Bond at the beginning of his career and he needs time to gain the skills and experience necessary to take on a Doctor No or a Goldfinger. But still...stealing water? Gimme a cussin' break...

Eh, you just described my favorite of the Roger Moore films, For Your Eyes Only (except for the bland and boring, but your mileage may vary). I generally prefer the less fantastic Bond films, like From Russia With Love (which also fits your description) and On Her Majesty's Secret Service. I didn't like Quantum of Solace much, though.

But still...stealing water? Gimme a cussin' break... It worked in Chinatown! But that's a different kind of movie. Given the way this planet is going, though, I don't think water-theft is a bad plot. It just wasn't done well in Quantum (a movie which had many other problems).

James, not even close to the same thing. Rosa Krebbs, Red Grant, Bloefeld, nothing bland or ordinary about any of them. After GOLDFINGER, those are my two favorite Bond films, as well.

QOS suffered from ADD. The fight scenes were so fast with the cuts I couldn't tell what the hell was going on. James Bond just did something bad to that other guy but I don't know what it was. Here's an idea, push the camera back a little and let's watch the fight scene unfold with a minimum of cuts.

I agree, and how about keeping CGI out of the fight scenes ( actually, aout of all Bond), it leads to lazy work on the choreographer, director and editor's parts...and it's confusing/disturbing. to look at.
