I gotta get your guy's take on BLACK DYNAMITE. I'm not a tru connoisseur of the genre, but I just watched it last night and really enjoyed it. I imagine Derrick would be over the moon. There are some laugh-out-loud bits and at an hour and fifteen minutes, stays well within it's welcome. Best of all is the great look of the thing. There are times when you'd swear you're watching something authentic. Loved the music as well. It's like GRINDHOUSE, but more affectionate., and more of a tribute to the actors and performance styles than those films were.

I just watched BLACULA for the first time, having DVR'ed it to goof on it. No such luck as the picture's really quite good. I've always heard people talk about how refined and cultivated William Marshall's voice is, as though he's somehow obliviously hammy in the role. Nonsense, he's very good. The music is terrific in it, too. And Vonetta McGee -- who died last month; what a face! Yes, the filmaking gets a little threadbare, but it's wholly entertaining.
