Tom -
You've convinced me that G.I. Joe is worth a look. At this point, I might have to wait until it hits DVD, though...

I thought GI*Joe was a pretty decent flick. Nothing Earth shattering, but I was pretty entertained by it. I think one of the things this movie got right was the fight scene in Paris. It kept in mind the amount of traffic that exists in a city like this and it factord in pretty big into that scene.

What were you trying to do at the beginning of the show Tom? Inquiring minds must know.

I'll find a way Deja, I'll find a way... Well, whatever way you try, it won't involve Sasha Grey, since I snatched her ass away from you...

I love the show, and I agreed with everything you guys said ... except ... HOW IN THE HECK DID YOU MISS STAR TREK ON YOUR SUMMER REVIEW! We were supposed to do a STAR TREK episode as the prize for a looooong ago contest we ran, but it's in a sort of limbo. That reboot is supposed to be covered therein, and thus we did not mention it in this episode. But I should warn you...I FUCKING HATE STAR TREK WITH A FUCKING PASSION and would rather die than spend any money watching anything connected to that piece of crap. When everything gets lined up and we finally record this, don't expect a love-fest. ...and before anyone asks, the same goes for STAR WARS. Perhaps even more so.

I am waiting for the Star Trek and Star Wars show now. I have no problem with hearing the other side of the isle on these two franchises. Star Trek has not been my favorite franchise; however, I do watch the movies and like the original series. I sorta like Star Trek, but I'm certainly no Trekkie. Now Star Wars....let's just say I have been George Lucas' slave for a while now. That man has too much of my money, yet I an curious to hear your views on my favorite trilogy, that's right the last three didn't happen.
I've been listening for a long time now, and love the show. Keep up the good work.

I really have no intention of ever, ever giving George Lucas any more of my money ever again. Besides, there's far, far too much talk about the man and his work on the podosphere now without my voice being added to it. The only reason I agreed to the Star Trek episode is because the winner of our contest requested it, and the request was part of his prize. We're just waiting for the winner to, you know, make the arrangements with us. Thank you for your kind words. We hope to continue producing entertaining stuff for a long time to come, especially in this, the Weirdest Season Ever.

Keep up the good work. If I had had my way we'd have done a STAR TREK and STAR WARS episode by now as I've been a TREK fan since the beginning and I was there that magical summer when STAR WARS first exploded like a supernova way back in the summer of '77. However, trying to get Tom to do something he doesn't want to do is...well, let's just say it's easier to get free food from a Chinese restaurant. Tom and I held a contest ages ago for our fans to create a BETTER IN THE DARK logo for us and the winner was was supposed to be guest hosting an episode. Said winner still hasn't collected his prize. Personally, I'd rather do a TREK episode than a WARS one. Much as I love STAR WARS I gotta agree with Tom on this: there's more than enough blah-blah-blah said and written about STAR WARS than is probably good for anybody. At this point is there really anything that can be said about STAR WARS that hasn't been said before?

At this point is there really anything that can be said about STAR WARS that hasn't been said before? The Hollywood Saloon guys recorded the only Star Wars podcast I would ever want to listen to - they discussed the various home video versions of the films, from early VHS to DVD. What was interesting about the show was their discussion of the evolution of home video, not necessarily Star Wars itself. I'm with Tom on this. I loved the films as a kid, but as an adult I find them hard to enjoy, with the exception of Empire. I think that one holds up better, probably due to a combination of Leigh Brackett's terrific dialogue, the best cinematography of the films, and a more emotionally mature tone. Also, watching The Searchers for the first time was a real eye-opener, as I learned where Lucas "borrowed" the scene of Luke discovering his aunt and uncle murdered. (BTW - silly trivia note about Star Wars. Uncle Owen was played by Phil Brown, an actor who appeared in a couple of Universal's "b" horror films in the 1940's. I watched Weird Woman and had no idea the young male lead opposite Lon Chaney Jr. and Evelyn Ankers later acted in one of the biggest box office hits of all time. Brown was later blacklisted and moved to England to resume his acting career, which is how he was cast in Star Wars - most of the actors aside from the leads were English film vets who were hired because they were inexpensive).

Oh, without a doubt THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK is the best out of all six STAR WARS. Because George Lucas had the sense to get a director who actually knew how to direct and a writer who knew how to write to pull the plow on that one.

Oh, without a doubt THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK is the best out of all six STAR WARS. Because George Lucas had the sense to get a director who actually knew how to direct and a writer who knew how to write to pull the plow on that one. And a great cinematographer, Peter Suschitzky, who went on to direct photography in all of David Cronenberg's films from Dead Ringers to his latest, Eastern Promises. (And, previously, shot The Rocky Horror Picture Show). I mean, aside from any other qualities, Empire just looks consierably better than any of the other films, CGI be damned.
