What's the chances of some trilogy reviews? I know you've done Indy, Spider-Man, X-Men, etc. But how about Back To The Future? I know Derrick is a Star Trek man (I think Tom is too) but what about the original Star Wars trilogy or at least the original Star Trek films (I think you said you planned on that one with David Ellis)? Godfather? Or the Dollars trilogy as wikipedia calls it (A Fistful of Dollars (1964), For a Few Dollars More (1965), The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966))? Or maybe the Scream trilogy? lol. Just throwing ideas.
And I'd have to say the Halloween episode is one of my favorite BITD episodes (how many hours was it Tom? lol.). What about a Nightmare On Elm Street or Friday The 13th retrospective?

Tom isn't a STAR TREK fan at all. Don't mention it to him or you'll be in trouble. I'm still buggin' him about having David Ellis as a Guest Host so he and I can talk about STAR TREK. For those of who you don't know, David Ellis designed the BETTER IN THE DARK logo and his reward is to Guest Host an episode where he picks the subject. David, get in touch with me and we'll hook that puppy up, okay?
Tom and I are going to redo the INDIANA JONES episode and include KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL since he and I were never very happy with that episode in the first place.
The SCREAM trilogy is a good idea and one I'll discuss with Tom.
As for NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET...okay, here's a treat for you guys:
I've been quietly putting together a collection of THE NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET movies. Since Tom did the HALLOWEEN movies I thought it was only fair that I do the NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET movies. I only have three of them on VHS so I've been going to Target and Wal-Mart to get the rest. Stay tuned, folks! The marathon NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET Episode is comin'!

Dude, between Star Trek, Nightmare and Indy I could go on for DAYS! If you need ANY help with any or all of those, Derrick, you let me know. But, I'm very excited to know that Nightmare on Elm Street (my wife somehow convinced my Mother In Law to somehow buy me the box set for X-Mas) is coming 'cause I was never too hip to Halloween (and yet I greatly enjoyed the BitD episode)...maybe because I only saw the 1st on AMC or something and the commercials just made that movie go on for 4 hours and I never did see the Rob Zombie remake...however I did see H2O and was entertained enough by it. I think it's a really good idea to devote entire episodes to the horror films like you did with Halloween and Re-Animator.

What about a Nightmare On Elm Street or Friday The 13th retrospective? I've never seen any of the BACK TO THE FUTURE films. I think Derrick had been talking sbout us guesting on an episode of BEND THE MEDIA to discuss those, but with that show on hiatus we never got back to it. I really, really REALLY can't stand Star Trek, but as Derrick pointed out, we are supposed to do an episode with our Contest winner David Ellis...and yes, when we finally make those arrangements, I will be watching all ten(?) films in preperation. I am nothing if not thorough. You wanna know what I hate more than Star Trek? Star Wars. A more useless and stupid 'cultural phenomenon' there has never been. Does that rule out our ever talking about it? No. But I think we'd want to go through all the stuff we're both enthusiastic about first. Godfather...never impressed me as much as it does everyone else, but it's a possibility, sure Derrick and I have talked about doing a series on Spaghetti Westerns, as well as an episode on the westerns Eastwood made at roughly the same time as he made the Leone films, so I think these will be gotten to sooner rather than later. Scream....sure, even though that is a series of diminishing returns, and it wouldn't surprise me if the idea of another movie--either a remake or continuation--is revived now that New Line is wholely subsumed. Derrick and I have Nightmare on our short list, as I think we mentioned in an earlier episode, but I think the next series we plan to tackle is the Rambo series...although I may be misremembering a bit....

(Although I wonder if we should hold off a bit on this episode until the Billy Bob Thornton remake is ready to go live.)

The marathon NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET Episode is comin'! This sounds like a great idea. The Nightmare films (well, after the first one) went into some really strange directions, especially the second film (which I'm sure you'll discuss). Also, there was one scene in one of the sequels (can't remember which one) that frightened me as a kid - it's the scene where a girl is transformed into an insect and gets stuck inside a glue trap. The special effects were top notch and I was really horrified. Yikes. I mean, overall I consider the original Halloween to be a better film than the first Nightmare (though I like both), but as series I think the Elm Street films were more interesting, because with the "dream" motif the behind-the-camera talent could work in more surreal, imaginitive territory than a straight-ahead slasher film. Even though Freddy became less and less scary as the films moved on (he barely has any speaking lines in the first film, and he's mostly off-camera).

I loved the first Back To The Future film as a kid. But when I re-watched it as an adult (more than once), I found it very mechanical, due to a specific plot point. I still enjoyed parts of it, but the thrill I got from it when I was younger had disappeared. So much of the last 45 minutes (or so) of the movie is set up around this element of the plot that watching it starts to feel like a chore for me - no surprises, just a lot of plot mechanics to resolve the story.

I just wanted to get all the NIGHTMARE movies together before we put that episode on the docket. I want to leave myself plenty of time to do my research properly since you set such a high standard with the HALLOWEEN episode.

If you kind of accept that the four Rambo films sort of live in their own galaxies, separate from each other in tone while maybe not in continuities...they have their charms.

Well, high standard of insanity maybe...I mean, those eight films almost broke me in a way you cannot imagine. But yeah, I think tying it in with the remake would be best--and it's not like we don't have plenty more series to tackle thanks to this thread!

I'm really surprised you haven't seen the Back to the Future movies, Tom.
I'm not a big Trek fan, but I do enjoy some of the films, like Wrath of Khan and First Contact. I definitely agree that Star Wars is extremely overrated. I enjoy the original trilogy for the most part but I could go the rest of my life without seeing them again and I wouldn't have any regrets.
I'm not a big fan of any of the horror franchises (other than Alien), but I love the first Halloween and the first Nightmare. But I'm on the other side of the fence from James, because I dig the first Nightmare far more than the first Halloween.
