This was a great show and I especially loved the discussion of SECONDS and agree with Derrick completely about it. That's a movie that -- before the advent of DVD and TCM -- you never saw, but people always talked about in hushed tones, that is was the greatest American thriller of the 60s and I when I finally saw it, maybe in my late teens, I was like: "Hunh? Is that all there is?" I did not get anywhere near appreciating it 'til much later.
I think Frankenheimer has a weird reputation on the whole because he worked in the thriller genre (but not only) and made films that were essentially serious. He wasn't a referential or self-conscious genre stylist of the sort that got kudos in the 70s.
And save for the awful final shot, I loved REINDEER GAMES.
