So the first episode of the new season broadcast last night. What did everyone think? Personally I don't like the Matt Smith Doctor and haven't since he first appeared. For a guy who's been around over 900 years and spent the bulk of that on Earth the complete lack of social skills and grasp of Earth culture astounds me. He reminds me of that really smart, socially awkward guy you were friends with in school but never admitted to being friends with. He currently ranks #10 on my list of Doctors.
About the episode itself I liked the mystery surrounding what happened and am interested in seeing how it plays out. I did like the whole getting everyone together aspect of the episode and I am completely in love with Dr Song.
On another complaint how can having a commercial every 5 minutes be considered "brought to you with limited commercial interruptions"?

He took a bit to grow on me but I really like The Matt Smith Doctor. He does wonderful things with his body language that reminds me of how William Hartnell moved and held his hands. The only actors who ever convinced me The Doctor was truly 900+ years old was Hartnell, Tom Baker, David Tennant and now Matt Smith.
I also love how he can go from being playful and childishly goofy to towering, god-like rage in an eyeblink. Along with Tom Baker and David Tennant he impresses me as being extremely dangerous when he has to be.
As for the episode itself...I know a lot of folks who loved every minute of it but I found it dull, plodding and tedious. Having The Doctor killed in the first 10 minutes is so ho-hum since we KNOW he's going to pull some timey-wimey mumbo-jumbo and he'll be back. So what was the point? I do admit that it's a nice switch to have The Companions know more than The Doctor for a change.
As for those Companions...well, this episode had Dr. River Song which automatically made it worth watching for me. And I loved how Rory jumped right in the middle of things and made significant contributions to the investigation. The scene between him and River was the best part of the episode. Rory was certainly more help than Amy Pond, who as usual did little more than stand around being all cute and big-eyed adorable. But apparently that's enough for a lot of folks so what do I know. I'll just be glad when the show starts being about Doctor Who and not "The Amazing Amy Pond & Friends"

First it was the Rose Tyler Show, you got more Doctor with Martha Jones (insert Derrick growl here), but then with Donna Noble it became a married couple-type duo show, like Hart-to-Hart without the love. Unfortunately I think that's how the show will be done from now on with the Doctor getting 60% and the balance his companions.

So, what did everyone think about tonight's episode? I LOVED the episode but I still don't like Matt Smith. This is the kind of episode that David Tennant or Tom Baker would have really made great. Am I the only one who would LOVE to see a crossover between Matt Smith and Colin Baker? To see the 6th doctor put the 11th in his place would be priceless.

I DVR'ed it to watch later on today after I come from my mother's house. I dunno...DOCTOR WHO used to be one of the few shows that I would watch when it actually aired but not this season.
