Is anyone interested in maybe picking a title off the TCM schedule those interested in could watch and we'd all circle back with input on? Similar to what was done w/ DARKTOWN STRUTTERS. (Except for those of us w/ Comcast, who, for whatever reason, had the picture listed under a completely different name. "Grrrrrrr") Maybe something relating to the Summer of Cowboy Fun? Just putting it out there...

Sounds good. I watch that station more than any other. I too have Comcast and I was wondering about DARKTOWN STRUTTERS. It wasn't listed, I thought that Derrick had been in error, but then it was on.

I like this idea, too. Just a heads-up, though; TCM is suspending "TCM Underground" in August for their annual "Summer Under the Stars" program. If you want to stick to "TCM Underground," they are screening William Castle's last film, Shanks on the 30th of this month. I recorded this one the last time they ran it, and I can tell you it is a very strange movie (even for Castle).

What do people have in their DVR queue the next couple weeks?

Tomorrow at 7:00 am (EST), TCM is running Days of Glory, a film from one of my favorite directors, Jacques Tourneur. I've never seen this one, and I don't think it's available on DVD. It's also Gregory Peck's first film.
Then at 1:30 PM (EST), TCM has Thirteen Women, a murder mystery that not only features an early performance from Myrna Loy, but also the only film appearance of Peg Entwhistle, the infamous "Hollywood Sign" girl (she jumped from it and became a symbol of shattered dreams of stardom). And Laurence Olivier's first wife, Jill Esmond, is here, too (she was more famous than he in 1932).
I'm not going to bother recording this one, but at 10:45 there's The Truth About Youth, with a starring role for David Manners, the actor who played John Harker in the 1931 Dracula. He's very bland in that movie, but I've heard he's much better in other roles (he may not have taken Dracula very seriously, I've read).
At midnight (the 21st) is a hard to see John Ford film, The Hurricane. Also not on DVD. Dorothy Lamour is in this, if you want to see her without Bing and Bob (and in a drama).
And that's just tomorrow!

TRUTH ABOUT YOUTH sounds interesting. I think tomorrow's Greg Peck day -- I'm set up to get CAPTAIN HORATIO HORNBLOWER (love the books, never been able to make it through that movie) and CAPTAIN NEWMAN MD. I recently read Tony Curtis' (latest) autobiography and he's openly contemptuous about the fact that Bobby Darrin was nominated for supporting actor for that movie.

TCM had a bunch of really cheesy sci-fi movies on earlier today including THE WILD, WILD PLANET and THE GREEN SLIME, both of which I haven't seen in years. Both have been recorded for a midnight double feature this Friday night.

The leading man looked so familiar it was driving me crazy but I just couldn't place him. Finally, I broke down and looked him up on IMDb and damn if it wasn't the guy who played Sheriff Roscoe Coltrane on DUKES OF HAZZARD!

Psychotronic Video interviewed him back in the day because of his role in this film. Best also turns up in two of Sam Fuller's movies ( Verboten and Shock Corridor). James

This coming Sunday evening or very early Monday (depending on which coast you live) I am DVRing TWO WOMEN. After THE BICYCLE THIEF this is my favorite De Sica film. This was one of the rare cases when the person who won the Oscar (Sophia Loren) warranted it.

On Friday, TCM is running the first ten Bowery Boys movies, in order. You are warned. (Joking aside, I recorded some of these before, and they have their moments, but I couldn't make it all the way through In Fast Company). Also this week, they're screening two good movies that are kinda surprising for TCM (outside of Underground, anyway) - Gregory's Girl and Shaft. James

Patricia says that TCM has been showing The Bowery Boys on Saturday mornings since the summer started. She's been recording and watching them on her DVR. I used to watch The Bowery Boys back in the 70's when Channel 5 aired them under the "Eastside Comedy" banner but I can't watch 'em now. Not even for nostalgia' sake.
And TCM has aired SHAFT before, plenty of times. As well as the sequels, SHAFT'S BIG SCORE and SHAFT IN AFRICA.

I really liked it for a while when TCM had themes on Saturday morning, first Westerns and then for a while they'd go through a whole B-movie detective series. Often now, they'll play a whole series in one day, which taxes one's DVR -- once a week is more manageable.
My two favorite series they showed were, of course, The Falcon -- which I loved as a kid, and I think they hold up pretty well. And -- especially -- the Crime Doctor series with Warner Baxter. These were from Columbia and are a bit higher budget than most, throw-away programers, but he's incredibly commanding but low-key. Effortlessly naturalistic. It's like he's just running his lines while these B actors are acting up a storm. A great actor.
