Top 5:
On Her Majesty's Secret Service From Russia With Love For Your Eyes Only Casino Royale The Living Daylights
(honorable mention: The Assassination Bureau, which could have been a great Bond film with a few tweaks to the script - thanks Derrick!)
Top 5 themes
"Live and Let Die" Pablo Ramone and Wings "All the Time in the World" Louis Armstrong "A View to a Kill" Duran Duran (shame about the movie...) "You Only Live Twice" Frank's kid "Nobody Does It Better" (Carly Simon, who I otherwise can't stand, but this song is too good - Radiohead occasionally plays this live, so look around the Interwebs for a recording)

When we refer to a board as 'apathetic,' we're referring to the Earth-2.net one--never this one, which is always popping!

MMMMMM, as Andy Brown would say.
I notice that the only films to make everyones list are FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE and ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE (I can't add CASINO ROYALE because Tom has it as a rotating 6th/5th on his). Are you guys sure that you aren't overly hard on GOLDFINGER to compensate for it's legions of admirers?
To catch up:
TOP 3 BOND VILLAINS (film):
Bloefeld (Telly) Red Grant Dr. No
TOP 3 BOND VILLAINS (books):
Bloefeld Mr. Big Red Grant
Top 3 Bond Girls:
Diana Rigg Barbara Bach Sophie Marceau
Top 7 Bond Themes: (This could change by the second) GOLDFINGER ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE (Instr.) DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER THUNDERBALL YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE DR. NO (The James Bond Theme) YOU KNOW MY NAME
WORST 5 BOND FILMS(starting with the worst):
1. DIE ANOTHER DAY 2. MOONRAKER 3. A VIEW TO A KILL 4. DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER 5. OCTOPUSSY (okay, a couple of good scenes, but with the amount of goofy bullshit in this movie I don't get why fans cut it so much slack other than it wasn't MOONRAKER or A VIEW TO A KILL)

Speaking of unofficial Bond films! I highly recommend THE MATADOR (2005), written and directed by Richard Shepard. Brosnan made this forgotten gem a couple of years after he was canned from the 00 franchise. When watching it, imagine this is a Bond that is past his prime, drinks too much and doesn'thave time for anymore bullshit. It all fits together well. I'm pretty sure that this was Brosnan's fuck you to the franchise. Definitely worth seeing.

Goldfinger is an oddly structured Bond film for the "one" that started the secret agent craze. Bond is passive through much of the second half (as Goldfinger's prisoner), and there are endless scenes of the Fort Knox plot being enacted. When I re-watch Goldfinger I start to get really bored when the trucks start rolling in.
I think the screenwriter, Richard Maibaum, came up with a great idea that improved on Fleming's book, though. In the novel, Goldfinger really is attempting to steal the gold in Fort Knox. Maibaum wrote the script with Goldfinger attempting to irradiate the gold to increase the value of the gold he already has (Bond's objections to the theft idea were Maibaum's own).

I think the first hour of GOLDFINGER is so strong, that the last hour kind of drags for me. But the death of Tilly Masterson is still a shocking scene, and maybe the best sacrificial lamb in the series.

Regarding Diamonds are Forever, I agree that it is not a good movie... but it's awful in such compelling, downright weird ways that I find it very watchable. I never want to see Moonraker or A View to a Kill again, but I'd gladly rewatch DIF.

BONDS FROM BEST TO WORST:
1: Sean Connery 2: Timothy Dalton 3: Pierce Brosnan 4: George Lazenby 5: Roger Moore 6: Daniel Craig
And before you guys start jumping on me about Daniel Craig being on the bottom of the list: my jury is still out on him. He made one outstanding James Bond movie with CASINO ROYALE and then followed it up with one of the worst in QUANTUM OF SOLACE. He's gotta make another one before he gets ahead of Roger Moore.
Much as I dislike Roger Moore's BondLite I give the man his respect: he made THE SPY WHO LOVED ME and FOR YOUR EYES ONLY which are good enough for me to stand alongside any of the Connery Bonds.

Derrick, knowing that you are a big fan of the books, as am I, I would imagine that you would have the same problem with Craig that I have with him (stated above).

5. Daniel Craig (Very good actor, too much of a thug. The Bond from the books was never a thug, even in his early days.)
When I re-read the books (or new Bond novels like DEVIL MAY CARE[/b]), I tend to picture someone who looks like Lazenby, but with a kind of Dalton personality. Though generally, I don't find any of the actors in the film really put me in mind of the character from the books, except at odd times. Lazenby, definitely, because he doesn't otherwise convey much personality, and when you used to see Bond on paperback covers or in daily comics that's more or less how he would look. And actually, Brosnan in the first half of DAD -- when he doesn't have the beard. Where I find the books really trump the movies is in the women characters. You feel Fleming loved to create them, and you get a real sense of them in the books, while in the movies they're more ornamental.
