Tom and I are going to be recording the NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET overview of the series on Friday and I was curious as to what everybody's favorite NIGHTMARE is. I have a suspicion of what that might be and I'd just like to see if I'm right.

I have a suspicion of what that might be and I'd just like to see if I'm right. I answered this on Facebook, but what the heck... My two favorites are the first and the fourth (an early credit for Renny Harlin). I think the third is okay. I've seen the 5th and remember not much about it. Freddy's Dead: the Final Nightmare opens with a terrific, Wizard of Oz inspired sequence, which looks much more expensive than the rest of the film, and then limps into boredom. Johnny Depp's cameo is funny, though. I haven't seen New Nightmare or Freddy vs. Jason yet. The second film is abysmal, is completely inconsistent with the first film (and the other sequels), and includes an exploding parakeet and a gay subtext the director swears he didn't recognize. It is...something. I've watched it a couple of times, more in astonishment than enjoyment. James

James Yeah, I tend to post the same thing over at our FB page and here because there are folks on FB who don't frequent this board and vice versa. So if anybody's been wondering why I do that, now you know. And knowing is half the battle.

As I've stated elsewhere, I am not a big fan. I don't hate them, Freddy is a very good character, but I find the series, including the original, pretty lightweight entries in the horror genre (but, admittedly, better than any that have come since). Having said that, my two most enjoyable experiences while watching NIGHTMARE installments were the episode of the television show, FREDDY'S NIGHTMARES, that dealt with Kruger's origin (it was concise, tense and brutal) and FREDDY VS. JASON (like X3 or WOLVERINE, I expected nothing and ended up having a fun time). That's all.
