What I've always wondered is why JC never made his own proper western when he had the clout. He's all over THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN DVD and he did the commentary track for RIO BRAVO. I wish he'd done one back in the 80s with Kurt.

I seem to dimly remember back in the 80's there being talk from time to time of John Carpenter writing/directing an epic western called EL DIABLO. Dunno whatever became of that. But considering how much Carpenter has said he loves western it is kinda odd that he never made one.

I don't know if he ended up directing it, though.

EL DIABLO did end up as a made-for-cable movie qwipster.net/eldiablo.htmSounds like it's played more for laughs than anything else. I'm debating whether or not to Netflix this one. I like Lou Gossett, Anthony Edwards and Joe Pantoliano but as anybody who's ever watched STAR TREK: VOYAGER knows, Robert Beltran is toxic.

I've never watched Star Trek: Voyager, but I think Beltran is very good in a recurring role on Big Love. But I'll forgive Beltran anything for having a role in Night of the Comet, a very funny end-of-the-world satire from 1985. It's a favorite of mine that I discovered from watching USA's Up All Night and I thought it was a miracle when MGM released it on DVD a couple of years ago.

I sure as hell don't remember Beltran in NIGHT OF THE COMET but then again I haven't seen it in years. And I remember when HBO used to show it religiously. Maybe it's time I Netflixed it.
