As you know, Derrick and I have floated the idea a couple of times of doing alternative commentaries. We've discussed a number of ideas, but haven't settled on anything.
Is there a particular film you'd like to make aforementioned commentary on?

You mean, we the listeners would feature on an episode of BITD?

Do you mean a guest commentary or you doing alternate commentaries on movies? If you mean the former, I'm not up for it myself, but I'd be interested to hear from other listeners. If you mean the latter, I wouldn't mind it if it was an extra episode, meaning I wouldn't want to take away from the regular schedule as I listen to your show while traveling and look forward to it.

I mean an alternate commentary track to a movie--something along the lines of what the guys at Adudathuda Studios or Rifftrax does, where you can download it to your media player, turn on the film and hear us talking about the flick.

I've found that alternative commentaries are best when they're done on craptastic movies, so I say pick an abomination that you guys would love to tear into.

That is a consideration, although I worry that we might end up with a commentary that finishes with me or Derrick insensate from being exposed to, let's say, PULSE a second time.... shudder....

The problem, I see, with an honest commentary is that with a good movie you're reactions are still gonna be fresh and consistent because, at least with me, a good movie can still provoke that certain feeling of excitement no matter how many times I've seen it it's almost like I've seen it for the first time again. It's fun. Bad movies, on the other hand, are NEVER like the first time you've seen it. You're feelings of revulsion aren't as sharp and dilute into a short burst of disgust before it gets changed when you see it on TV the 2nd (or more) time because you don't wanna see it again. Unless a certain amount of time goes by (like 10yrs) and you've simply forgotten how bad it was. One thing that could be fun is that at the very start give a countdown (or just a warning then a "NOW!") to when to start the movie this way we could listen to the commentary as we watch the movie too if we want or can.

When/If we do it, we'll certainly have something along the lines of what the Adudathuda types do in their commentaries and have a synch check so you can watch the movie with us.

To be honest, Tom would pick something he could go into orgasms over but me, I'd rather the movie be something that our listeners pick for us instead of one we pick for ourselves. Because of COURSE we're going to pick something WE like. That could get kinda boring for both Tom and I as well as the listeners. And we don't want anybody to be bored, now do we?

I think that could open up a whole catagory of commentaries for you called: What The Hell Is All the Fuss About? Those would be movies neither (or at least one) of you has seen but everybody around you just can't shut up about how much you need to see this movie. Some prime canidates could be the 2 movies on your 260 Essential list that you added after being told about how awesome they were repeatedly.

Thought I'd bring this discussion back up again as Tom and I ourselves bring it up every so often between us and it seems like the next logical step in the growing BiTD evolution.

This is a great idea. I hope you select something that's a commonly owned title or available for streaming from NetFlix, so people can more easily play along.

Well, that's why I would prefer for folks to make their suggestions. For just that reason. I really don't want to hear a commentary on a movie that has been done to death like Casablanca or Citizen Kane as I don't know what else could be added. Considering how well-versed both of you are on smaller, genre films I think a semi-well known "B' movie of some sort like the original Wicker Man or Attack of the Killer Tomatoes would be a natural fit. That way there's enough room for background information, takes from the set, and also room to make fun of the cheesiness.

I'd quit BiTD before doing a commentary for CASABLANCA which is on my list of Most Overrated Movies Of All Time. In fact, I'd do a commentary for CLEOPATRA before I did one for CASABLANCA 'cause at least I know I could stay awake through CLEOPATRA.
